HAR-BRO Helps Big Retail Store Rapidly Recover from Record Rain and Roof Collapse
Granada Hills, Calif. – Torrential rain storms in the area last month were no match for the local Har-Bro Emergency Services team, which provided water mitigation services and a new roof to help a big department store get back to business in just three days.
Following a late winter rain and wind storm, a 1,500-square-foot portion of the store’s roof collapsed. While the store, located in Granada Hills, Calif., was closed at the time so no one was injured, the large retailer reopened as soon as it was safely possible.
“We received a call at 2 a.m. from the retailers’ engineer and put a crew together immediately,” said Jeff Swenson, Har-Bro project manager. “Our goal was to develop a plan to rebuild the roof as quickly as possible, allowing them to safely reopen, and we accomplished that in just three days.”
Har-Bro Senior Superintendent Armando Lopez met with their engineers just after that 2 a.m. call and assisted with scheduling the project and organizing the work crews. Har-Bro and their crew of 20 worked with engineers and designed a temporary repair while they demolished the existing roof, cleaned up the area, rebuilt and then reframed the new watertight roof, allowing the store to reopen.
This retailer is the nation’s largest broadline closeout retailer with annual revenues approaching $5 billion.
